Call for Papers

Call for Papers is now open for OCWIC 2023! Please visit https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ocwic2023  to start a submission.

OCWiC is an opportunity for women to explore careers in IT, to network with each other, and to meet possible mentors. Attendees will be students majoring in computing fields (undergraduate and graduate) from universities and colleges all over Ohio as well as teachers and professionals in computing careers. OCWiC encourages women to complete their studies in computing by exploring careers and meeting women leaders from business, industry and academia.

We invite the submission of proposals for participation from academia and industry in the following session formats:

  • Professional Talks – These 20-minute talks are intended to present an overview of either a research area, technology, and large project or career, culture, and current relative issues in a way that would be understandable and inspiring to students at all levels, including those just beginning their study of computer science.  A limited number of submissions will be accepted due to time constraints.  Submit a two-page description of your talk.  We expect faculty, practitioners, and advanced graduate students will propose these talks.
  • Student Short Talks – If you are a student who has been involved in a research project, internship, co-op, service-learning, or other interesting experience related to computer science or information technology, this is an opportunity to share that experience with others and perhaps inspire them to pursue similar opportunities.  Short Talks will be approximately 10 minutes long.  Please submit a one-page description of your topic.
  • Posters – Have you worked on an interesting project at college? If you have been involved in a research project, internship, co-op, service-learning, or other interesting experience related to computer science or information technology, this is an opportunity to share that experience with others. Perhaps inspire the audience to pursue similar opportunities.  It is easy to present a poster. Share your ideas and experiences with others. This opportunity is open to undergraduate and graduate students. To apply please submit a one-page description of your project.
  • Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) Sessions – If you would be interested in leading an informal discussion session on just about any topic, then consider offering a BOF session. These sessions can be a great way to share ideas and be introduced to current trends in the computing world. For example, if you have a passion for your career, consider participating in a session that will allow you to share your career development journey with student attendees. Submit a two-page summary of your BoF idea including a brief bio.
  • Workshops – These late-evening 45-minute sessions may involve anything from hands-on tutorials to board games. The focus is to have fun and learn at the same time! If you have an activity that you would like to lead, submit a two-page description explaining the timeline and topics you plan to cover in your session.
